Six Months! It’s amazing what you can do in six month. Six months ago I was barely running – in fact I would say I was walking with a bit of running in between. My average pace was a 15:10 minute/mile. I was overweight and my knees and my body just hurt. Today I run! I run and take a short walk break if I need it – mostly I RUN! My average pace now is 11:02 minute/mile.
I have run two 5K races and a 10K race. I have run 6.3 miles without stopping! I have pushed my body to points that it never wanted to go. I have lost 13 pounds and 16 inches overall. My BMI went from 27.1 (overweight) to 24.6 (Healthy). I have gone from a size 12 (almost 14) to a size 8 (just about a 6). My 8’s are baggy already but I refuse to buy 6’s just yet. LOL
I eat healthy and want to go do my runs. I need it! It makes me feel better and even on my worst days a good run will make things so much better and make me happy. I never thought I would say that about running. My knees are stronger – my body is stronger – I am healthier!
I know I have been a slacker with my pictures and measurements but here are my six month stats:
Measurements 1/13/12 Measurements 7/6/12 Loss
Waist(at bend) 32″ Waist(at bend) 28 1/2″ -3.5
Waist(at belly button) 36 1/2″ Waist(at belly button) 32″ -4.5
Hips 37 1/2″ Hips 33 1/2″ -4.0
Thighs 23 1/2″ Thighs 21″ -2.5
Arms 13 1/2″ Arms 12″ -1.5
I seem to have come to a plateau. I have been stuck at 130 pounds for a few weeks now. I thought for sure I would have hit the 129’s by now but no luck. Right now I am okay with that. I am at a good, healthy weight and I feel good with how far I am come. I would definitely like to lose another 5-10 pounds and I will continue to do what I am doing and training for the half marathon. I am sure in time the weight will come off and if it doesn’t and this is my final weight – I am okay with that as well.
Six months and still going strong!!

Hiya, good article! How did you find the 10k run? I’ve entered one in two weeks time but only started running a few weeks ago, so training hard!

Hello! I find all my runs from a local race site. Just google “running in (your city)” You should be able to find something that lists local races. Way to go on your new running adventure. 🙂

Thanks very much! Father in law just did the Ironman in Lanzarote so spurred me on to start running, and to write a blog about starting to run. Two 10ks and a half marathon in the next 3 months so reading running blogs for motivation!

Very ambitious! Be careful and dont overtrain. Injury will be not be fun and but you behind in training.

You still looked fine to me then.

You have to remember that I am only 5′ 1″ so the 13 pounds is a lot on my small frame. I was 143 in January and at 5’1″ that puts me overweight on the BMI. I still think that the BMI thing is far stretched but I was still overweight. What I would give for just a few more inches in height. LOL

Way to keep at it! I agree about th bmi thing. Bodybuilders with 10% body fat would be consideted obese on a bmi scale. And I wish I had a few more inches too.

LOL Yes because you are just not tall enough right? 😉
The BMI thing is kinda BS if you ask me but hey – whatever! I dont go off of that alone. I mostly go off of how I feel about myself and my body and how my clothes fit.
