4 Mile Obstacle Race

30 Jul

Over the weekend, D ran the 4 mile obstacle race.  We got up about 5 am and hit the road for the 2 hour road trip.  Once we got there it was obvious that D had her work cut out for herself.   We got a small glimpse of what was in store for her.  She did amazing.  I am really proud of her.  We met up with some friends and I think that really helped her.  She stayed with them the entire time and they all helped each other out.  I think this was a good strategy for them all.

So here are some of the pictures from her obstacles.  There were a total of 25 different obstacles and 4 miles of running along with a slime slide at the end.  I was only able to see a handful of these obstacles but you will get the point.

First up – the mud pit.

She didn’t lose any shoes so we are good.

How about a tire climb?

Up and over the tires and doing great.

Then they went off into the woods.  That’s where they had to run over many mogul hills that went up and down and up and down.  There were several walls that you had to either hop over if they were shorter or climb over if they were taller – then more running.  Next up was a steep mud hill that you had to climb up.  The other side of the hill was smooth that went down into a mud pit.  It was steep and you had to slide down it on your butt and into the muddy pit

There were trenches that were dug and covered with wood and filled with water.  These were dark tunnels and she had to crawl through 4 of them.  After that it was time to carry a 30 lb sand bag about 50 feet and then over another steep mud hill.  Next they went into a wooded area that had ropes strung from tree to tree making a somewhat of a spider web design.  They had to climb through the ropes and weave in and out of them to get through.  Once through that there was more running and then back into the trail and over to the fire pit.  This was a leap over a flaming fire.  No burns and then they had some more running to do.  I wish I was able to see more of all of this.

Coming out of the woods

And onto the monkey bars.

More running.

Then there comes the “leap of faith”.

D just couldn’t do it.  She is not one for heights.

Okay brush that one off and get back on track.

After that was the ice pit.  It was a freezing pit and you had to go under a beam of wood to get to the other side.  D said she couldn’t feel her body once she got out of there.  LOL  Then under a small PVC piped rainfall.  You had to crawl under the pipe through the muddy grass.  Then more running until you hit the river.  Here you had to cross the mucky pond by pulling yourself across a tight rope.  Then there was more running .  Up next was the army crawl – belly crawl under barbwire in muddy water.  More running and then a rock wall – up and over.  More running and then the cargo net.  Up, across the top, and back down.  Then time to cross the mucky pond  again.  This time walking or swimming through it – no ropes to help you here.

It was nasty, stinky water.  I was told it spelt like horse sh!t.

Then it was up and over this beast.  Up the ladders then down the hay bails.

Then onto the big beast of a wall.

D was off to a good start but then slipped.

She didn’t let go of that rope.  She was able to get back onto her feet and get to the top of that wall.

Then it was down the slime slide.

D said the slime went all up her shirt and into her bra.  LOL  Crazy ride!

Then through the gladiators and finally the finish.

She did awesome!  Then it was time for a well deserved beverage.

Trying to clean up afterwards.

We had a great time with some really awesome friends.

If you’re wondering why I did not run in this race – there are a few reasons.  First off I really don’t think my knees would make it through this.  I have a real hard time walking stairs still so I cant imagine climbing ropes or ladders.  Second – this just really is not me.  I have no desire to go and do this and get all muddy and nasty.  Although it was really cool to be there and it would be awesome to say I did that, I just will not do that.

D did an amazing job and I sure she will be back next year to do it again.

Looks fun. You are such a good sport to cheer for her. I, on the other hand, would be complaining that I didn’t get to play. Hopefully, you were able to help her celebrate by drinking a beer with her…cheers
