Honolulu Marathon

06 Mar

I just realized I never posted this post about our marathon.  So here we go.

We did it!  We are Marathoners!  This was such an amazing trip and so worth it all.  The marathon was amazing and sucked all at the same time.  I am so glad we did it together.  I know I wouldn’t have been able to make it thru this alone.  We flew into Honolulu early so we could adjust to the time and all before the marathon.  Also I wanted to be able to enjoy some of Hawaii just in case I broke myself during the marathon.  LOL

The race expo was awesome!

Race morning was crazy.  As we walked to the start of the race it started to rain.  It stopped before the start of the race but once the sun came up it was so muggy and humid.  Training in Florida summer helped us deal with this.  SCORE!  Lots of people in this race.

We stared the marathon and were really just enjoying the run and taking in all the sights of Hawaii.  It was beautiful!

It really was about mile 18 that thinks started to really sink in and hurt and we still had 8 miles to go.

20 miles in and I was toast!  That is where to “why did I do this?”  started to kick in.

At mile 23 I really did think I was dead!  But it was almost over and we tried to make the best of it and knew we would have a great reward at the end.

Then came this big ass hill, or should I say volcano, at mile 24.  Yup Diamond Head.  We ran up Diamond Head at mile 24!  This hurt.

So it was downhill after that and we did it!  It was an amazing feeling to cross that finish line.

We enjoyed this race as much as possible and didn’t stress about time.  My goal was 5 1/2 hours.  We finished in 6:01:01.  We stopped to pee (D not me) and almost throw up (D not me) and take lots of pictures along the way to document our first (and my only) marathon.  I am so proud to be a marathoner!  I pushed my body to do something only few can do and I am proud of that.  I am also happy to report that I didn’t break anything along the way.  WOOHOO  26.2 miles baby!

Congrats! This is awesome. My brother and his girlfriend ran it too; I wonder if you crossed paths!
